overview
AUDIO SPIKE on the left is a list of your audio files. That
is, files
from the NOIZE folder (inside the <earshot> folder) on
the local hard
disc (try adding your own files) and any sound files that
<earshot>
finds from the web.
To COMPOSE with <earshot>, double click on a file in the
AUDIO SPIKE
(try also single clicking on a file and hitting a number between
1 and
9). It loads into the AUDIO FIELD as a horizontal stick that
can be moved
around the screen by pointing at it (it will dim on the screen
when
selected) and dragging. Moving up and down changes volume, left
and
right adjusts the speed.
To EXPLORE the web for sound files, type in a URL or keywords
into the
NOIZEPROBE window at the top of the screen. Hitting the return
or SEARCH
button starts the search, STOP button stops the search and PAUSE
pauses
the search at the location it has reached.
NOIZEPROBE continues to NAVIGATE through the web by following
links
between web sites. Any found sounds will be loaded onto the
AUDIO SPIKE.
Keyboard commands for affecting sound will work on the most
recently
added sound if no sound has been selected. To select a sound,
point at
its stick (the stick has a lighter shade if selected).
Hitting the S key spawns the AUDIO FIELD GENERATOR (AFG) which
will
create its own <earshot> compositions with the sounds
in the AUDIO
SPIKE. The AFG can also be configured to define your own compositions,
using a normal text editor. For more information refer to the
'default.afg'
file which is loaded at startup. You can load other AFG files
by clicking
the 'configure' button on the start screen and locating your
file.
